About the Book

Dipsikha Bhagawati’s assessment of the poetry of T. S. Eliot, modernism’s outstanding poetic voice, has located in his writings the resource of a fertile intellectual and cultural ethos, which is invigorating in both approach and execution. Readers will have the opportunity to revisit the poetic oeuvre of Eliot by situating Bhagawati’s engaging commentary beside the actual verse of this major harbinger of modernism. The book looks into the myriad contextual markers that inform Eliot’s poetry from his early dialogue with the epitome of the modern self through Prufrock and covers the journey to the nuanced and culturally layered canvas of The Four Quartets. Dipsikha Bhagawati’s Exploring T.S. Eliot: A Study of his Major Poems is indeed a worthy and accessible academic contribution. Dr. Bibhash Choudhury, Professor in English, Gauhati University, Guwahati
