About the Book

This independent qualitative research study has brought the views of 7 differently abled Indian respondents on topics pertaining to life of disabled individuals, their families, education, employability, job, marriage, and social lives. Participants of this research belonged to various places of India like Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Researcher obtained detailed responses from 6 participants in this research study using phone interviews. He conducted phone interviews with the aforementioned respondents between January 16 and December 31, 2020. He has also typed his opinion as a participant in this investigation in the same year. The researcher used a self-prepared interview schedule to acquire information from the respondents. The interview schedule stated above consisted of 31 queries and 37 statements. Findings of this research reveal about opinion of the respondents on 30 topics covered in this study. Suggestions are given for reducing the problems disabled individuals face. It would also help in enhancing the quality of life for persons with health – related debilities and contribute to their well-being. Researcher strongly believes that this research will be read by disabled individuals, their caregivers, educators, government cum public sector employees, staffs working in civil society organizations as well as every citizen living in India and other foreign countries.

About the Author

Dr. Barani Daran S has completed his “Bachelor of Commerce, Master of Social Work (Specializing in Clinical Social Work), Master of Philosophy in Social Work and Doctorate in Social Work – Management Studies”. He has also completed his “University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test for Lectureship in Social Work subject” under “Persons with Disabilities” category during 2013. He is working as an “Assistant Professor in Social Work department, Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India” from May, 2023. He is passionate in teaching and research. His areas of interest in research are related to subjects of “Clinical Social Work, Disability Studies, Human Resource Management and Sociology”. He has worked as an “Assistant Professor in Social Work department” of “Kodaikanal Christian College (Autonomous), Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India” during 2021 to 2022. He has worked as part time faculty for “DMI St. John the Baptist University, Malawi and DMI St. Eugene University, Zambia”. He has handled online classes for “Bachelor of Social Work students of DMI St. John the Baptist University” during the period March to May, 2021. He has handled online classes for “Master of Social Work students of DMI St. Eugene University” from March to June, 2021. He has worked as “Guest faculty in department of Social Work, Pondicherry University, Puducherry” during the academic year 2016 to 2017. He worked as “University Grants Commission major research project fellow in the department of Management Studies at University of Madras”, for the period from 20.05.2011 to 31.01.2013. “University Grants Commission major research project was in the area of work family conflict formed the basis of his doctoral research work”. He has worked as “Young Professional of Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology (CAPART) at Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women Limited, Tiruchirappalli district” from August, 2008 to February, 2009. He has presented numerous research papers in regional, national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, etc. He has published several research articles in journals, conference proceedings and as a book chapter. He is one of the editors of the books titled “Global Sustainable and Inclusive Development” published in 2020 and “Socio Revista – 2022 (Innovation in Social Work)” published in 2022. He has also written a book titled “Concepts in Psychology” published in 2021.
